Over half the land in Ukraine is fertile, and 18% is wooded. Full of fertile plains, Ukraine has a continental climate, with a more Mediterranean climate on the Crimean coast. The western and northern regions receive the most precipitation, and summers range from moderate to oppressive in the south. With such geographical and weather-related conditions, Ukraine is the habitat to many flowers, both native and imported.
Hollyhocks make up around 60 species of flowers that are native to central and southwest Asia. They are popular as ornamental garden flowers, and are usually found in colors of deep purple, red, and white, with native versions often including other colors. Hollyhocks are resistant to drought, and thrive in sun-drenched locations where other flowering plants may succumb.
The morning glory is another flowering plant native to Ukraine. They grow easily even in poor or parched soils, and make good vines for creating shade when it is hot. Morning glories grow rapidly, twine readily around vertical structures, and have intense blossoms that bloom for one day. They are often grown on lattices for ornamental or shade-enhancing properties.
The marigold originating in Ukraine is of genus Glebionis. It is a perennial flowering plant that reaches heights of 80 cm and has bright yellow flowers 3. 5 to 5. 5 cm in diameter. This marigold is naturalized in many places other than its native habitat, reaching the west with the advent of agriculture.
